Back-to-School time is an ideal time to create your child identity kit.
More than 350,000 family abductions occur in the U.S. each year - that is nearly 1,000 per day! – No Exaggeration.
There are approximately 3,200 to 4,600 non-family abductions each year.
Follow these simple tips and create your own.
1) Take a Head Photo - This should be a clear photo (please no cell phone photos - they are not clear). Make this an 'every day' kind of photo with a good impression of what your child looks like at any given time.
2) Take a Body Photo - This should be a photo of their entire body as they stand. Place them by something like a tree or swing set to show their height.
3) Take Special Markings Photos - If your child has any special marks (birthmarks, scars, ect.) take a clear photo of these areas.
4) Type a Stats Sheet - List their full name, parents names, birthday, age, height, weight, hair color, eye color, race, shoe and clothing size, length of hair, allergies, and describe any special marks and habits your child has.
5) Take a Video – If you can, take a video of your child talking and playing in a well-lit area. Let the video show their personality.
6) Finger Prints and DNA – It is very important for police and other workers to have clear finger prints and even a DNA sample. Ask your local police station to fingerprint your child and what you can do to preserve a DNA sample. Fingerprinting is inexpensive.
Keep all of these in a fireproof box at home, a safety deposit box, or other secure area. You may want to keep these in at least two locations.
