In 2003, a new company came onto the online market with an idea to bring people together. Thanks to the backing that company had from its parent company, it now has over 200 million members worldwide. The site is, of course, MySpace.
Borne from an idea by a publicly traded internet company called eUniverse (which was subsequently changed to Intermix), MySpace is now officially the 6th most popular website in the English-language world. Although figures are never officially released, the recent deal by News Corporation sees MySpace as a true multi-billion dollar industry, and has made these early founders of the company multi-millionaires.
Although early days, a new social networking site is showing eerily similar results that MySpace enjoyed. Zubby.com is the brainchild of Randy Zlobec, the author of the Search Engine Marketing book "SEM Gorilla", and has already been featured on Yahoo Business News. On top of this, the North Carolina media have been lining up to talk to Zlobec about the venture.
Offering a friendlier alternative to the spammy nature of MySpace, as well as the advertising-heavy arena that Facebook is becoming, Zubby.com has seen membership levels explode in the last few weeks. With an average 100 sign-ups per day, it may not be at the level of MySpace yet, but that's for now.
When Zubby.com was first introduced, Zlobec made a promise that the first 1000 members of the site would become part of a group that was rewarded for helping the site grow. These 1000 people would share in any profits that advertising revenue and Google ads, etc, would bring into Zubby. At the rate that the site is growing, this special membership club will soon be filled.
With new members already telling friends, family and work colleagues about it, Zubby is on the cusp of something big. Just like MySpace, it's getting a name for itself in the business news sections of influential websites like Yahoo and similar; just like MySpace, it's a place where like-minded people can come and meet new friends and share pictures, music, etc; and just like MySpace it allows users to sell products and business services via classifieds (although it took MySpace 3 years to offer this option).
For anyone who's already onboard, it looks like you joined at the right time, and things can only continue to grow. For anyone still not part of the Zubby family, there's still time to join the Elite 1000 Club. And even once that's been filled, it's still one of the friendliest and fastest-growing sites around today. Get on board now and see what you're missing for yourself!
