Where does Gossip come from?
Posted On 01/31/2008 13:47:01
Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV's or
radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs, and bars. They were told to "go sip some ale" and listen to people's conversations
and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times. "You go sip here" and "You go sip there." The two words "go sip" were
eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term "gossip."

Chairman of the Board
Posted On 01/28/2008 11:27:27
In the late 1700s, many houses consisted of a
large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long
wide board folded down from the wall, and was used
for dining. The "head of the household" always sat
in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the
floor Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man,
would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal.
To sit in the chair meant you were important and in
charge. They called the one sitting in the chair the
"chair man." Today in business, we use the
expression or title "Chairman" or "Chairman of the
Board."

It'll cost an arm & a leg!
Posted On 01/27/2008 07:57:53
In George Washington's days, there were no
cameras. One's image was either sculpted or painted.
Some paintings of George Washington showed him
standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back
while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices
charged by painters were not based on how many
people were to be painted, but by how many limbs
were to be painted. Arms and legs are "limbs,"
therefore painting them would cost the buyer more.
Hence the expression, "Okay, but it'll cost you an
arm and a leg."

Minding your "P's" and "Q's"
Posted On 01/25/2008 08:07:25

Ever wonder where that old saying "minding your P's & Q's came from?

Here's is what our history book tells us!

At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank
from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's
job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the
drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and
remember who was drinking in "pints" and who was
drinking in "quarts," hence the term "minding your
"P's and Q's."

Just for Today
Posted On 01/21/2008 23:14:22
For just today- only today (but do this each day!)
1. Wake Up and Decide to have a good day.
2. Dress Up!! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
3. Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen.
4. Stand Up!!... For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything..
5. Look Up to your fellow man!!...
6. Reach Up!!...and stretch - For something higher.
7. Lift Up your head . Hold your head high !
Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Which "Tater" are you?
Posted On 01/17/2008 15:04:28

Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are just content to watch while others do the work.

They are called “Spec Taters.â€

Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do the work.

They are called “Comment Taters.â€

Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don’t want to soil their own hands.

They are called “Dick Taters.â€

Some people are always looking to cause problems by asking others to agree with them. It is too hot, too cold, too sour or too sweet.

They are called “Agie Taters.â€

There are those who say they will help, but somehow just never get around to actually doing the promised help.

They are called “Hezzie Taters.â€

Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they are not.

They are called “Emma Taters.â€

Then there are those who love others and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others.

They are called “Sweet Taters.â€

Have you seen my Grandma?
Posted On 01/17/2008 11:57:34

Got this in an email today-had to share! Author-unknown

THE COMPUTER SWALLOWED GRANDMA

The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed 'control' and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Jeeves
My searches to refine.
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'

So, if inside your 'Inbox,'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy,''Scan' and 'Paste' her
And send her back to me.

Exercise your Energy
Posted On 01/14/2008 10:25:22

If time measures how much energy you require to change your thoughts/beliefs, as suggested by the Quantum Physics Theory, and space shows exactly what you are thinking now, then the future is what you experience when your thinking/beliefs change. Right? Thoughts become things.

You can experience a cup half full or half empty. There is only one person responsible for the quality of the life you live. That person is YOU.

Watch your thoughts-They become your words

Watch your words-They become your actions

Watch your actions- They become your habits

Watch your habits-They become your character

Watch your character-It be comes your destiny
