I love My Dog Club

I share my home with Frankie the minne dachie, Misty the pug, Rocky the blue fronted Amazon, cockatiel, Little Bitty the parkeet, Lil Boy and Lil Girl a pair of finches.  Unfortunately, Cujo the cat died several years ago.  I had her for nearly 18 years.  Peanut the cat is gone now, too, of kidney failture.

I have had many, many pets over the years.  More cats than dogs, but cats, dogs, fish (guppies, tropical, gold fish), birds (finches, parakeets, cockatiels, the parrot), rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice, chamelons/lizards, monkey, duck.

One story about each -

Cats - our cat Cookie, birth her kittens in my nightgown while I was sleeping.  I awoke to newborn kittens wiggling around in my nightie when I was 9.  I did not wake up during the birthing process.

Dogs - my first dog was a spaniel.  My dad made my mother give it back in two days, I was very sad.  He slept on my pillow and I rubbed his silky ears.

Rabbits - we came home to find my dad cooking the pet rabbit.  This was before "Fatal Attraction".  Needless to say, I ate no rabbit stew that night.  My uncle stretched the skin to make my sister a pair of slippers.

Fish - my goldish, Fred, had a mustache.  When he died we buried him in a bandaid box, hoping to check on him later to see if he was a full fish skeleton.  We could not find him.  My other fish, "Fish", would attempt "suicide" by leaping out of his bowl.  I saved him many times.  Eventually, he succeeded.  I was given condolence cards by friends at work.

Monkey - I did not like the monkey, but he liked me.  He would pee on the TV set because it was warm, blowing out the tube.  We would wait patiently for the pee to dry so we could watch TV again.

Bird - I have had the bird for 20 years.  I expect her to outlive me. Perhaps she can do the eulogy.  She laughs just like me and screams when I am on the phone.  She will say hello to you when you come in.  All of my cats and dogs have been afraid of the parrot. Unfortunately, Frankie is not.  Frankie wants to kill and eat Rocky.  Rocky seems to be unaware of this.  I finally tamed my parakeet. After you tame a parakeet there is not much else to do with them.  However, she liked to crawl into my bra and stay there and peek at me with one eye.

Ginea pigs - I call them weet-weets, because that's the sound they make.

Mice - not afraid of them.  They all tend to look alike so none stand out in my mind.

Snake - our snake escaped and crawled through about 10 apartment buildings undetected and was found dead in an empty lot next to the last building.

Chameleon - my brother would go outside and catch bugs to feed him.

Duck - ducks poop - *a lot* and it smells bad.  Do not keep a duck in your house.

Hamster - our hamster was already pregnant, She gave birth while I was returning her to the pet store.  We kept them.  They were the size of bees and you could see their organs.  They would wiggle out of the nest and she would retrieve them, hold them like a mother cat in her mouth and shake them, and take them back to the nest.  My Yorkie (Yorkies are ratters) got to one of the hamsters.

Pidgeons - my brother use to fly, collect, and trade them as a hobby.  Our neighbors ate them as a delicacy.  We did not.
