Love That New Years Momentum
Posted On 01/06/2008 16:37:00

Ya gotta love the momentum that the New Year always seem to bring with it!

Somehow changing the last number ******* out on your checks and bringing out that new calendar makes us all feel like we are working on a clean slate.

While I am busy working away on that book, doing some major rewriting, I wonder how much of my vigor comes from that imaginary line that 2008 has seemingly drawn for us.  Why are we all so eager to make changes at the start of a New Year when we are entirely capable of doing it at any time?  Food for thought anyway.

I lost a lot to rewriting, but what came in it's place was so much better, so change is good!

Keep enjoying that New Year feeling everyone...

Happy New Years
Posted On 12/31/2007 03:56:27

Welcome 2008!  Happy New Year to all my new Zubby friends and here is wishing you all the best throughout the year.

I personally decided that I am not making myself any resolutions to try to keep this year.  I am only making myself a promise to keep plugging away at my book and do my best to be a decent human being!  Nothing too difficult ya know?  LOL!

At this stage of the game I would rather try to make some meaningful lifestyle changes than to make resolutions that will fall by the wayside before the January page of my calendar is turned over.

Wishing you all great things in 2008...

This Writing Thing Is Fun...
Posted On 12/22/2007 08:00:24

Fun, but hard work too.  I am cruising right along and enjoying every minute of it.  It is amazing how the ideas just start to flow and everything starts to build a cohesive plot, and characters form personalities and pretty soon you have your own little world built!

I didn't realize I would use so much of my writing time building back story and writing character histories that you don't even see on the printed page.  (Guess that is how J.K. Rowling knew Dumbledore was gay but we hadn't a clue until she outs him in an interview and not a book.)

Being a SF/F fan for so many years, and reading voraciously in the genre has led me naturally to write in it as well.  I think making up worlds is maybe harder than writing about the one we already know.  Sure, you get to create whatever rules you want for it, but they have to be believable within that whole fantasy scope.

A Novelist I Will Be
Posted On 11/29/2007 08:34:12

I have been an avid reader since I first starting learning to read "Dick and Jane" books in elementary school.  My taste in books is very eclectic and you can find "Harry Potter" on my shelves as well as some staple fantasy authors like Piers Anthony and Roger Zelazny.

I have been much intrigued by S.M. Sirling's "Dies The Fire" and Fablehaven by Brandon Mull.  Magyk from Angie Sage is another I really like.

So while being eclectic, I tend to read heavily in the scifi/fantasy genre and have always wanted to write a novel.

I guess after years of thinking about it I am ready to do it.  I have tons of time to write, and access to a good word processing program and all that is left is to get started.

Methinks that may be easier said than done!

Working on a character, filling in some of her background and emotions.  A character doesn't just come to life the minute your story begins, they have lived a life and had experiences that make them who they are.
